DENTAL BRIDGES
A beautiful smile is within reach at O’Fallon Dental Works
SMILE PROUDLY.
When you are missing teeth, it can be difficult to smile, chew, speak or laugh comfortably and with confidence. Damaged or missing teeth can cause other teeth in your mouth to become loose, shift or even fall out. Additionally, the empty sockets formed by missing teeth can be a place where plaque and bacteria grow, which can cause other issues with one’s oral and overall health. There are many different ways to replace damaged or lost teeth. One of these is options is a dental bridge.
Dental bridges are artificial teeth that can fill in the gaps that occur because of a missing tooth or several missing teeth. A dental bridge is comprised of artificial teeth that will be cemented to the intact teeth surrounding them. These artificial teeth are usually made from porcelain. The benefits of obtaining dental bridges are substantial if you suffer from one or more missing teeth. Your overall oral health and the functionality of your teeth will be restored.
BENEFITS OF DENTAL BRIDGES
A dental bridge is a cosmetic dental solution that is effective in restoring your smile as well as the functionality of your bite. Additional benefits of dental bridges include:
- Restore the ability to properly chew food
- Balance the forces of your bite to create a healthy, functioning bite
- Maintain the shape of your face
- Keep the remaining teeth from drifting out of proper position
- Bridges are a fixed appliance that does not move or slide
If you have missing teeth, O’Fallon Dental Works will help determine if a dental bridge is the right cosmetic restoration for you. If you would like to learn more about cosmetic dentistry services or dental bridges, please call (636) 272-5015.
ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL BRIDGES?
Patients can consider dental bridges to replace missing teeth if they meet all these requirements:
- Only a small number of teeth are missing
- The teeth on either side of the gap (anchor teeth) are in good condition
- The gum tissue surrounding the anchor teeth is healthy
- Overall oral hygiene is good
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH DENTAL BRIDGES
A dental bridge usually requires two office visits to complete. Our dentist will prepare the abutment teeth by removing some of the enamel to fit them for crowns. Impressions of the surrounding teeth will be needed to create the bridge restoration. A temporary bridge will be placed until the permanent bridge is made in the lab.
At the next dental visit, your permanent bridge will be cemented into place. It is not uncommon for dental bridges to require more than one adjustment appointment. We will take the time to adjust the restoration until it functions and fits precisely. At O’Fallon Dental Works, our goal is to ensure our patients are comfortable and adapting to their cosmetic restoration.
