VENEERS
Don’t settle for a smile that doesn’t make you feel amazing!
TRANSFORM YOUR SMILE WITH DENTAL VENEERS
Veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment applied to the front teeth to improve the appearance of your smile. Whether you’re looking for a cosmetic enhancement or need to address chipped, broken, damaged, or stained front teeth, they can restore a natural, beautiful and white smile. The high quality materials used to create them mimic the light reflecting properties of your natural teeth and the porcelain is resistant to stains. This ensures your smile remains bright and beautiful for years to come.
Veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that are permanently bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They are not the same as dental crowns or implants, as these cosmetic materials just cover the front surface of the upper teeth that are visible during smiling. They are designed to be virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth for a subtle yet impactful enhancement.
BENEFITS OF PORCELAIN VENEERS
Porcelain veneers offer many aesthetic benefits. Some of the benefits include:
- Strength and durability
- Improve and enhance your smile for great self-confidence
- Close gaps between teeth
- Straighten mildly crooked teeth
- Create a uniform smile
- Smooth and translucent surfaces look and feel natural
- More stain resistant compared to natural teeth
In addition to these benefits, veneers can also protect your teeth from further damage and improve your overall dental health by providing an extra layer of protection. ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR VENEERS?
Dental veneers are a cosmetic dental solution used to address a variety of smile concerns.
Many patients are candidates for them as long as they have good oral health, practice good oral hygiene and have a sufficient amount of tooth enamel. Veneers are routinely used to correct:
- Discolored front teeth, either due to root canal therapy or severe stains
- Worn teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Spaces or gaps between teeth
- Misaligned, uneven or irregularly shaped teeth
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH DENTAL VENEERS
The process of getting veneers involves a series of appointments.
Consultation: The first step in getting dental veneers is to request a consultation with Dr. Dougherty at O’Fallon Dental Works. After an examination with X-rays and impressions, we will discuss your smile goals and what you are hoping to change about your smile. We will also explain the process in detail and answer any questions you may have. We will then create a treatment plan and a cost estimate for this cosmetic procedure.
Preparation: The next appointment will entail preparing the front teeth for them by removing a very small amount of enamel or the outermost portion of your tooth. This will require a small amount of drilling and should not cause much pain. Your dentist will then take another impression of your teeth and send it to the laboratory so they can customize your dental veneers, which will match the color and texture of the surrounding natural teeth.
Veneer Placement: At your last appointment, Dr. Dougherty will carefully place your veneers on your teeth to make sure they fit exactly as they should. You will have the opportunity to approve the fit and appearance of the veneers before they are permanently bonded. This is not a painful process and you will leave with a beautiful new smile. After placement, we will provide you with detailed care instructions to help you maintain your veneers.
Taking Care Of Your Veneers
Caring for your dental veneers is another important step in ensuring they last as long as possible. With proper care and depending on the type, veneers should last around 10 years or so. Here are some tips for maintaining your veneers:
- Brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily to remove plaque and prevent gum disease
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid scratching the veneers
- Avoid chewing on hard objects, such as ice, nuts, or hard candy, as this can damage the veneers
- Visit our office for your routine checkups and cleanings
Additionally, our office is always happy to help and answer questions after the procedure, so give us a call at (636) 272-5015 if you need further assistance.
